All the times I’ve been to Orlando, I had NEVER visited a water park — maybe because I always went in winter?? 😂
This time, I couldn’t miss it!
As I already described in this video, Typhoon Lagoon is *THE* water park — this is where it all began.
When it opened on June 1, 1989, the landscape of this kind of attraction changed forever.
Disney didn’t just build a massive water park — they created a level of theming never seen before.
It has one of the largest wave pools in the world, producing nearly 2-meter-high waves every 90 seconds.
A lazy river runs all the way around the park, stretching 650 meters long.
The park’s icon is “Miss Tilly,” a shrimp boat that, due to a hurricane, ended up stuck at the top of a mountain called “Mount Mayday” — from which 15-meter water jets shoot out every 30 minutes!
I know I’m using too many exclamation points, but I just can’t help it 😅
Everything here is big, everything is super themed, and it’s all too awesome to put into words.
But let’s get to the practical stuff.
Here are some tips I’d like to share with you:
- Arrive early and head straight to grab lounge chairs by the pool — I recommend the ones on the left side as they stay in the shade longer
- Then go to the locker room area to rent a locker using your credit card — they cost $10 for small and $12 for large. If you only have a small backpack, the small one is fine, otherwise I recommend the large one since it’s just $2 more
- If you’re staying at a Disney hotel, bring the towel from your resort pool. Otherwise, you can rent one for just $2
- I highly recommend wearing rubber shoes, also known as “water shoes,” not so much to protect your feet from the pavement, but from the heat it can reach — especially in August. (Amazon link)
- As always, be sure to follow my 12 rules here too — water parks follow similar dynamics to theme parks
- As of today, one of the most popular attractions is Miss Adventure Falls, located on the right side of the park — I suggest heading there first
- Last but not least, download my free Walt Disney World guide — it never hurts 😅
