Opened on June 4, 2021, at Disneyland California Adventure — the second park of the Disneyland Resort — this is the second Avengers-themed area to open at a Disney park.
The first is located at Hong Kong Disneyland, though it currently features only one attraction, which is essentially a retheme of a previous ride.
So we can say that the Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is truly the first area built entirely from scratch with this theme.
What is Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure made of?
The Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure includes:
- 2 attractions
- 1 open-air theater
- 4 dining locations
- 3 shops
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
This attraction stirred quite a bit of controversy!
As Disney Imagineering legend Joe Rohde explains in an episode of the Disney+ series “Behind the Attraction”, fans were outraged when Disney announced the closure of the beloved Tower of Terror to re-theme it with Guardians of the Galaxy.
But after just 9 months of hard work, they nailed the Disney formula.
Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is both fun and irreverent — just like the movies.
I rode it during the day and at night, and I have to say — it truly shines after dark, just like the rest of Avengers Campus.
WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure
If Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is a reimagined attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure is an all-new ride that also appears at Disneyland Paris.
In this attraction, you’ll help Spider-Man eliminate the SpiderBOTS that are wreaking havoc across the area. You’ll board special vehicles where you can shoot webs using your hands — no equipment required!
Inside the vehicle, special cameras map your hand movements in real-time to simulate web-shooting with impressive accuracy.
Ancient Sanctum
The Ancient Sanctum is an open-air theater where shows featuring Doctor Strange take place throughout the day.
I recommend seeing it in the evening — as night falls and the lights come on, the atmosphere becomes truly magical.
Avengers Headquarters
This building isn’t a traditional theater — in fact, all of Avengers Campus is sort of a live stage. But this is where most of the street shows originate.
It’s also likely to become the entrance for a future attraction as part of a future expansion of the land.
Dining at Avengers Campus
There are four restaurants in Avengers Campus, and all are quick service — fast food style. But don’t let that fool you: it’s not just burgers and fries. The food is fully themed and fits perfectly within the land.
Pym Test Kitchen
Pym Test Kitchen is the largest and most important dining location at Avengers Campus — and the only one indoors.
Here you can enjoy dishes in unusual proportions.
Pym Tasting Lab
If after eating at Pym Test Kitchen you’re still in the mood for something quirky, the Pym Tasting Lab — the outdoor bar located right next door — will refresh you with the strangest drinks you’ve ever tried.
Shawarma Palace
If you’re a true Marvel fan, you already know what I’m talking about.
The famous post-credit scene from the first Avengers movie gets its biggest tribute right here at Shawarma Palace.
Terran Treats
This small stand, located in front of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, serves traditional snacks — but with some unusual colors.
Shops at Avengers Campus
There are three shops at Avengers Campus:
The Collector’s Warehouse is the store located at the exit of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
Everything here is themed around the Guardians.
Campus Supply Pod is a small corner shop near the entrance of WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and offers Spider-Man-themed apparel.
In my opinion, the only store truly worth visiting is WEB Suppliers, where you can buy your own personal SpiderBOT or power-ups to use within the attraction.
You’ll find many variations of SpiderBOTS, from the classic version to the Iron Man-themed one — and you can control them remotely with a dedicated controller.
The WEB Power Bands are power-ups that you can use inside WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure to unlock special abilities themed to the bracelet’s character.
For example, if you purchase the Iron Man-themed band, you won’t shoot webs — instead, you’ll fire Iron Man-style repulsor blasts, increasing your chances of scoring higher.
Final Thoughts and Tips
This is just one of the many areas that make up Disneyland California Adventure — it may not be large, but it’s packed with details, references, and entertainment that any Marvel fan will love.
I recommend heading straight to WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, which always has long wait times, and only afterward to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!, which has been around longer.
