Rulantica is truly unlike anything we’re used to in Italy.
A water park, partly indoors and partly outdoors, featuring slides for up to 4 people, a super long lazy river, and tons of incredibly detailed theming—I had never seen anything like it before.
But let’s go in order.
What is Rulantica?
Rulantica is a fictional island with its own story and lore, specially created by the creatives at MackMedia.
Here’s an excerpt from the official website’s story:
Many myths surround Rulantica: some believe the source of life lies hidden on the magical island! Over the centuries, many have tried to reach Rulantica, for few can resist the lure of immortality.
Where is it located?
In reality, Rulantica is an indoor water park that is part of the Europa Park resort, located in Rust, Germany, just a few kilometers past Freiburg.
It’s easily accessible from northern Italy—about a 5-hour drive from Milan, mostly through Switzerland.
When is it open?
363 days a year!
Yes, you read that right—Rulantica is open year-round, except for December 24th and 25th, with hours from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
How much does it cost?
A full-day ticket costs:
- €42.00 for adults
- €39.00 reduced (ages 4–11 and 60+)
A ticket that also includes access to the sauna and relaxation area costs:
- €52.00 for adults
- €49.00 reduced (ages 4–11 and 60+)
There are also afternoon tickets valid from 5:00 PM, costing just €3 less.
Parking costs €7 and lockers only €1.
Currently, advance booking is mandatory, so I recommend purchasing your tickets in advance directly on the official website.
Rulantica, like Europa Park, sells tickets only through their official channels. So if you’re wondering whether you can save money by buying elsewhere, like on Tiqets, the answer is no.
How do the Rula-Bands work?
At the entrance, each guest receives a bracelet called a Rula-Band, which is used to:
- Open your locker in the changing area
- Charge purchases at restaurants, bars, and shops
- Access the relaxation area (with the appropriate ticket)
At the exit, simply return the band at the checkout and pay the balance.
This system, very similar to the MagicBand at Walt Disney World in Orlando, lets you leave everything in the locker and enjoy the park hassle-free.
But beware—it also means you don’t immediately realize how much you’re spending, so keep an eye on your budget!
All Themed Slides in Rulantica
Rulantica is divided into 12 themed areas:
- Frigg Tempel
- Hyggedal
- Lumåfals
- Rangnakor
- Skip Strand
- Skog Lagune
- Snorri’s Saga
- Snorri Strand
- Svalgurok
- Trølldal
- Vildstrøm
- Vinterhal
Frigg Tempel
This was the park’s first outdoor area, featuring a 32°C pool and a pool bar open all day.
Hyggedal
Over 1,000 square meters of pure relaxation.
Two saunas, an outdoor terrace, and a variety of food options leave nothing to be desired for those seeking rest.
All in pure Nordic style.
Lumåfals
This is Rulantica’s central area, featuring:
- Wave pool
- Self-service restaurant Lumålunda
- Snorri’s Grotto, where you can purchase everything you need
Rangnakor
This area features two thrilling pairs of slides:
- Dugdrob and Vildfål
- Hugin and Munin
The first two are trapdoor slides—intense and claustrophobic.
The second pair is a dueling slide experience where the tubes run side by side three times—perfect for a friendly competition!
Skip Strand
A beached ship provides the perfect backdrop for a children’s playland.
Skog Lagune
This lagoon is made for relaxation: waterfalls, water jets, hydro-massage, and a pool bar make the perfect end-of-day combo.
Snorri’s Saga
There are many lazy rivers around the world, but Rulantica’s is one-of-a-kind. It’s super long, features double tubes, and has immersive theming and effects like nowhere else.
Unmissable!
Snorri Strand
The new summer playland of Rulantica, opened this year.
Svalgurok
Another new playland, but also for older kids and adults.
Trølldal
The most beautiful playland I’ve ever seen.
Super themed, full of details, slides, and water games—absolutely everything is there.
Must-see!
Vildstrøm
My absolute favorite area of Rulantica!
This wild water course begins indoors but is done without rafts—you go in free-floating through warm water and a rushing stream!
True to Rulantica’s style, halfway through you’ll even face a split—will you choose the right or left path?
I loved both 😍
Vinterhal
Possibly the area with the most slides, but the best ones are:
- Vinter Rytt
- Svalgur Rytt
These slides use 4-person rafts—but be careful about the total weight!
A scale will weigh your group, and if the light turns red, you’ll have to split up. Trust me—they calculated everything perfectly. You’ll understand on Vinter Rytt 🤣
Conclusion and Tips
Rulantica is truly unique and fun—every area is carefully crafted down to the smallest detail. Nothing is left to chance.
I strongly recommend a visit, especially if combined with a day at Europa Park.
6–7 hours can be enough to enjoy it fully. Head straight to Vinterhal, where the most popular slides are—and the longest waits. Once you’ve done those, explore the other areas, especially the outdoor ones. Even though the water is heated, the German weather will test your cold resistance—especially if you visit in autumn like we did.
