Parque Warner Madrid the Spanish Hollywood

In the mid and late 1990s, all of Europe saw a rapid expansion of new amusement parks.

At the same time, the American market seemed to show signs of saturation, and several companies began looking to expand their operations to other continents, as was the case with Six Flags, then affiliated with Time Warner.

Thus, on April 6, 2002, Parque Warner Madrid was inaugurated, costing €368,000,000. With its themed areas, it transports its guests into the worlds of DC Comics superheroes and Warner Bros. cartoons.

In 2006, the park’s management shifted from Six Flags to Parques Reunidos—management, NOT ownership—the same company that also owns Mirabilandia.

This is why the two stunt shows in the park are produced by the same company that has been staging Scuola di Polizia, later renamed Grosso Guaio a Stunt City, for many years at Mirabilandia.

What are the themed areas of Parque Warner Madrid?

Parque Warner Madrid is divided into five themed areas:

  • Hollywood Boulevard
  • Movie World Studios
  • DC Super Heroes World
  • Old West Territory
  • Cartoon Village

Hollywood Boulevard

This is the park’s entrance area.

It represents a street from the famous Los Angeles district and includes reproductions of real
structures, such as the TCL Chinese Theater and the Walk of Fame, as well as various shops
and dining spots in Art Deco-style buildings.

The boulevard also hosts the daily parade and numerous meet-and-greet points with Warner characters and
Hollywood celebrities from the 1920s.

Movie World Studios

This area represents the backlot of a film studio, featuring movie sets that replicate New York’s brick
buildings.

The main attraction, Stunt Fall, is inspired by the daring feats of stunt performers.

Another interesting and immersive attraction is Hotel Embrujado, a mad house with an
impressive pre-show and noteworthy effects.

A must-see is the stunt show Loca Academia de Policía, a historic show at the park,
which closely resembles Mirabilandia’s Scuola di Polizia.

DC Super Heroes World

This is perhaps the most famous area of Parque Warner Madrid, where DC Comics’ iconic heroes come to
life. It features the two main cities where Superman and Batman operate.

Metropolis is centered around a plaza with the Daily Planet building, which serves as
the entrance to the roller coaster Superman: La Atraccion de Acero.

Gotham City features a dark atmosphere and includes Arkham Asylum and other structures
inspired mainly by Tim Burton’s 1989 film.

Here, you’ll find the coaster Shadows of Arkham and the brand-new Batman Gotham
City Escape

Not to be missed are the three towers of La Venganza del Enigma, standing at 115 meters,
the tallest free-fall towers in Europe and a symbol of Parque Warner Madrid.

The flagship show in this area is undoubtedly the Gotham City™ Stunt Show, perhaps the most famous show in the entire park.

Old West Territory

As with any well-designed theme park, a Western area is a must—and Parque Warner Madrid’s version is large and well-detailed in its theming.
The most important attractions are Coaster Express, the longest wooden coaster in Europe, and Rio Bravo, a water ride where the main goal is “getting soaked.”

Cartoon Village

Opened in 2011 to celebrate the park’s 10th anniversary, Cartoon Village is also the largest area with the most attractions in all of Parque Warner Madrid.
Many of its 19 attractions are flat rides for younger kids, but a few are real hidden gems not to be missed.

Correcaminos Bip Bip is a family coaster dedicated to the world’s most unlucky coyote. The front of the train is designed with a great visual, and it may be the only attraction in the world with this specific theme.

Rápidos ACME is your typical raft ride—but again, the theming here is anything but ordinary.

La Aventura de Scooby Doo is a trackless dark ride where you must help the gang rid a haunted house of ghosts.

Tips and Final Thoughts

As always, I recommend following my fundamental rules which you can find in this article, but here are a few helpful tips:

Arrive at the park early, even 30 minutes before the official opening time.
I suggest touring the park in a circular path—this way, you’ll move from one themed land to another smoothly.

Keep in mind that in Spain, lunch happens later than in other countries, so eating around 12:30 PM will give you a double advantage.
