Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN opened on May 29, 1971, originally named Magic Mountain. It was purchased in 1979 by the Six Flags company, which renamed it to its current name by adding the company’s name to the original one.

Where is Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN located?

Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN is located in Valencia, California, 40 miles northwest of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

With 20 roller coasters, Six Flags Magic Mountain holds the world record for the most roller coasters in a theme park.

When is it open?

Before the pandemic, Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN was open 365 days a year. Now, it is open every day in the summer, during extended U.S. holiday weekends, and on spring weekends.

To be sure about opening days and times, I recommend checking the park’s official website for updated schedules and downloading the app, which will be very helpful before and during your visit.

How much does Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN cost?

A one-day admission ticket starts at €66 per person.

I highly recommend purchasing in advance, either from the official website or from Tiqets.

Which themed areas does it include?

Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN consists of 11 themed areas, although calling them “themed” is a bit of a stretch:

  • DC Universe
  • Screampunk District
  • Bugs Bunny World
  • Full Throttle Plaza
  • Six Flags Plaza
  • Baja Ridge
  • Rapids Camp Crossing
  • The Underground
  • Metropolis
  • Samurai Summit
  • The Boardwalk

I say this because Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN doesn’t focus on theming, immersion, or storytelling for its attractions and areas.

Sure, each area technically has a different theme, but it’s not what I’m used to.

The main theme of Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN is the record-breaking nature and sheer number of its rides, not the overall quality of the visitor experience.

The Best Rides at Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN

It’s not easy to rank the best rides in the park—with 20 roller coasters, it’s nearly impossible to ride them all in one day, not due to logistics, but physically, because of the extreme G-forces they deliver.

If you want a full and detailed overview of all the park’s rides, you can find it here.

I’ll try to create a top 3 of the best coasters at Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN:

#1 X2

x2 six flags magic mountain

  • 66-meter drop
  • Top speed of 122 km/h
  • 1,100 meters long
  • 5 different soundtracks

But that’s not all—the seats can rotate 360 degrees during the ride!

All these features make X2 the best coaster at Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN.

#2 Viper

  • 57-meter drop
  • Top speed of 110 km/h
  • 1,170 meters long
  • 7 inversions

With the tallest loop in the world at 44 meters high, Viper was Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN’s pride for many years.

#3 Superman: Escape from Krypton

Superman- Escape from Krypton

  • 126.5 meters tall
  • 0–167 km/h in 7 seconds
  • Seats facing both forward and backward
  • First ride in the world to use linear induction motors

I’ve always had a soft spot for Superman: Escape from Krypton. When it opened in 1997, I was blown away by its features and its simplicity.

The goal was to build the tallest and fastest coaster in the world—so why complicate things? A straight vertical track was the simplest and most effective solution.

I’ve always dreamed of riding it, and I’m proud to say I did.

Tips and Conclusion

As always, remember to follow my essential rules found in this article, but here are a few extra tips you might find useful.

Unfortunately, Six Flags MAGIC MOUNTAIN isn’t known for quick loading and unloading operations. The app’s wait times can be inaccurate, and the signs at ride entrances are often off too.

My advice is to make a list of the 6 or 7 rides you most want to try, rank them by priority, and follow that order.

There’s no guarantee you’ll manage to ride them all—but at least you’ll have a chance.
